TMI Response to Consultation on a registration scheme for short-term lets in England

Consultation on introduction of a use class for short term lets and associated permitted development rights

Background

Following its call for evidence into the potential development of an accommodation registration scheme in Autumn 2022, DCMS launched a new consultation into how it might design and implement a registration scheme focused on short-term-lets. Whilst only focused on short-term-lets, this positive move has the potential to help deliver the level-playing-field and address key health and safety concerns that TMI and other trade associations have long lobbied for.  It will also help local authorities to manage the supply of short-term lets.

Details of the consultation

DLUHC were also consulting separately on changes to planning rules that would potentially require a homeowner to seek planning permission before converting properties into short-term lets
