Decarbonising Visitor Transport

Programme

Join us for our next TMI zoom discussion as Alistair Kirkbride will talk about European best practice in decarbonised visitor travel, and what this looks and feels like on the ground.

Alistair Kirkbride is a director of Low Carbon Destination CIC. This emerged from a Churchill Fellowship European study tour in 2023 that looked at Decarbonising the whole visitor journey for rural destinations, the knowledge and learning from which is built into www.lowcarbondestinations.org

He has worked on transport strategy and delivery for over 20 years with specific interests in visitor and leisure travel as well as working with rural communities. He has worked with several national parks, national landscapes (AONBs), forest parks and is currently involved in a tourism and transport project with Cumbria Tourism.

Alistair will talk about European best practice in decarbonised visitor travel, and in particular what this looks and feels like on the ground (it’s really good) and how it might translate to UK contexts. Put another way, we are often jealous of the quality of visitor access and transport services overseas, so what aspects of this can be translated back to the UK and how? He’ll also expand on the finding that whilst national and regional government will always be important in the delivery of in-destination visitor transport services, local trusting networks of visitor businesses and communities are the common thread of places overseas that have really great services; how might this translate back to the UK?

Join us at 10.00AM on Thursday 25th April
